SHOWER OF ASHES

EXPLOSION IN RESTAURANT FIRE. . FURNACE WRECKED. (Per United Press Association.) Nelson, August 19. A loud explosion followed by the scattering of red hot embers across the room startled the four occupants of the Ritz Kitchen about eight o’clock this morning. As the proprietor, Mr R. E. Ladbrook, was investigating he received the force of a second explosion in his face and was covered with a shower of ashes, but escaped serious injury. Coke is the only fuel used in the furnace and the explosion occurred a few minutes after a fresh lot had been put in. The furnace was wrecked and, with a shower of live coals cast over the kitchen, the occupants were extremely lucky in escaping serious injury.
