MINISTERIAL. The Hon. S. G. Smith (Minister of Education and Minister ol Employment), accompanied by Mr W. Bromley, deputy-chairman of the Unemployment Board, and Mr W. I. Deavoll and Mr W. J. Shanley, the Minister’s private secretaries, arrived in Invercargill by car from Timaru last evening. They are staying at the Grand Hotel. They will leave again to-mor-row morning for the north. Mr S. V. Raines left for the north by yesterday morning’s express. Miss N. K. Griffith, supervisor of the telephone exchange at Invercargill, has been appointed to a similar position in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs C. H. Billington, who have been associated with the Telugu Village Mission, India, for about 17 years, will arrive in Invercargill by the mid-day express to-day. Messrs A. K. Harris, G. T. Sage, Reeves Harris, R. Ollivier (Christchurch), D. Manson (Wellington) and W. P. Reed (Dunedin) arrived in Invercargill yesterday and are guests at the Grand Hotel. The Acting Prime Minister, Sir Alfred Ransom, arrived in Dunedin yesterday afternoon from the north and delivered an address last night, states a Press Association message. He will leave today for the north. Mr G. E. Wright, of A. and T. Burt, Ltd., has received advice from the Institution of Heating and Ventilating Engineers, England, that he has been elected an associate member, by examination, with the letters M.I.H.V.E. Mr M. Quilter, of the Gore staff of the Bank of New Zealand, has received notice of his transfer to Dunedin. He was farewelled by fellow members of the staff on behalf of whom the manager, Mr James Hunter, made a presentation of a golf bag. Word has been received that the call to the Rev. Frazer Barton, of Auckland, recently forwarded on behalf of the Gore congregation by the Mataura Presbytery, was presented to Mr Barton on Tuesday at a meeting of the Auckland Presbytery. Mr Barton accepted the call. Mr S. Anderson, president of the Southland branch of the Typographical Union, has been elected unopposed as the trades unions’ representative on the Southland Technical College Board of Managers in place of Mr W. M. C. Denham, who has declined nomination for a further term. The Minister of Education and Employment (the Hon. S. G. Smith) passed through Dunedin yesterday en route to Invercargill, accompanied by the de-puty-chairman of the Unemployment Board (Mr W. Bromley). He will leave Invercargill on Friday, arriving in Dunedin on Saturday, and will remain there over the week-end and probably leave for the north on Wednesday, states a Press Association message.
