UNUSUAL TAX
CUSTOMS DUTY ON ASHES. After being sent nearly 6000 miles by post from Vancouver, a small casket containing the ashes of Mclver Forbes Morison Mclver Campbell was. placed in the family burial-ground at Ballochoyle, Holy Loch, Argyllshire, recently. Campbell died in Vancouver in 1932 and expressed a wish to be cremated. He requested an old friend to place the ashes in the family vault. There were certain legal difficulties to be overcome, but these were finally surmounted, and the ashes sent by post at the cost of a few shillings. The customs, however, imposed a duty of £2 10/-.
