BLUFF NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.)

Saturday was a beautiful day at the port, with many hours of brilliant sunshine and a warm temperature. Visitors were numerous, while the MaristBluff football fixture was responsible for a very good attendance. The weather was again perfect on Sunday and many cars were in evidence, the sunshine and the presence of two liners in port, no doubt attracting people to Bluff.

The recent visit to Bluff of Mr F. Jones, M.P. for South Dunedin, has stirred interest in the political situation locally. It seems probable that in addition to Coalition and Labour candidates a Democrat representative will also be standing for Awarua and this will tend to lend further interest to the campaign, as it will give the election a very “open” appearance. Euchre.

At Saturday night’s euchre tournament in aid of the Dominican Convent funds, which was held in Mr H. W. Campbell’s rooms, the winners were: Ladies, Mrs F. Te Koeti 1, Mrs J. White 2; men,, Mr M. Dimond 1, Mr R. Roderique 2. Play was supervised by Mr L. Mortimer. Cricket Club.

At the week-end a meeting was held by the social committee of the Bluff Cricket Club to wind up matters in connection with the recent bazaar in aid of club funds. Mr W. Pickard was in the chair. The balance-sheet, tabled by the secretai-y (Mr C. Barry), showed that a satisfactory balance had resulted from the effort. As a consequence the club will be able to purchase much needed equipment and stai-t the coming season with a useful credit balance. Votes of thanks were passed to those who had given donations, to the ladies who had assisted at the stalls, the Bluff Musical Club, and to the secretary for his valuable services in connection with the arranging and carrying out of the bazaar. The committee was composed of Messrs W. Pickard (chairman). C. Barry (secretary), J. Tait, jun., W. Cooper, C. Phillipson and W. Burtenshaw.
