Council Of Women

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Invercargill branch of the National Council of Women was held on Wednesday. There was a very fair attendance; several apologies for unavoidable absence were received. In dealing with correspondence the secretary reported having sent a .letter of sympathy to the relatives of the late Mrs E. R. McCombs, and members stood in silence as a mark of respect and sympathy. Mrs H. Colwill, Convener of Arts Committee, of the N.C.W., wrote asking for information concerning artistic activities in this district. The secretary read her proposed reply to this letter giving particulars of work done here in painting, sculpture, etching in handcraft of various kinds, in drama and play reading, in operatic work, and in music, both instrumental and vocal. With slight additions this reply was approved by members. Dr Elizabeth Gregory, Studholme House, Otago University, forwarded a request for particulars of the diet of households in this district. To facilitate this inquiry sheets of “Questions on the food of a family, its cost etc.,” were also sent with a request that the representative of each affiliated society would distribute these at their meetings and forward them to Dr Gregory when filled up.’ .' A copy of the proposed amendments to the Constitution of the N.C.W. was received from the Dominion secretary. It was decided that this should be studied by members and discussed at a later meeting. A very animated discussion on “Coeducation of boys and girls” was then entered on/ each member present giving her views and ideas on the matter.
