Golf Ball

BRILLIANT FUNCTION. The Golf Ball held annually by the Invercargill Golf Club and the Invercargill Ladies’ Golf Club took place on Thursday evening in the Federal Banquet Hall. The Ambassadors’ Orchestra supplied the music. Mrs R. J. Gilmour, president of the Ladies’ Golf Club, and Mr A. E. Smith, president of the Invercargill Golf Club, received the guests. Mrs Gilmour wore a becomingly cut model frock of black chiffon velvet made to form a long train with chronium beaded trimming at the front neckline and on the deep cape collar at the back. Mrs A. E. Smithy frock was of black cotele sheer witn silver lame trimmings. Miss Mary Chilwell, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Chilwell, Underwood, Miss Zona Nichol, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs E. A. Nichol, Bluff, and Miss Jenny Thomson, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs John Thomson, Grace street, made their debut. Miss Chilwell’s frock was of floral tinsel chiffon on a white background worn over an underskirt of pale pink satin and made with cartwheel sleeves and two tiers of circular frills outlining the skirt which fell into a train. Her bouquet was of roses, freesias and' maidenhair fern. Miss Nichol wore a simply cut trained frock of deep cream suede crepe with gold lame trimming the shoulders and lining the deep cowl neckline at the back. A gold lame buckle" fastened the sash which swathed the waistline. Her bouquet was of pink and white daisies, carnations and ferns. Miss Thomson’s frock was a model in white taffetas embossed with gold. The skirt, which joined the deep closely fitting bodice in a succession of peaks, fell to the ground in full folds.
