BIG INCREASE

TAXATION RECEIPTS ABSTRACT OF NATIONAL ACCOUNTS FIGURES GAZETTED (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, June 13. The outstanding feature of the abstract of national accounts for the financial year ended March 1, as published in a supplement to the latest Gazette, is the substantial increase in taxation receipts from £17,059,829 in 1933-34 (shillings and pence omitted) to £20,177,606 last year. The detailed items are tabulated as follows

The net expenditure under special acts last year totalled £23,100 compared with £22,504 in the preceding year. Department services cost £9,780,628 (net) compared with £lO,397,332. Interest payments amounted to £8,023,812 as against £8,836,467 in 1933-34. Administration and management cost £117,732 as compared with £61,045, repayment of the Public Debt Act, 1925, section 11, totalled £1,578,293 compared with £1,392,256. Under the heading grants and subsidies, the payment of proportion of the totalisator duty to racing clubs amounted to £27,289 and the preceding year £26,404. The contribution toward the cost of the Singapore naval base was again £lOO,OOO, while miscellaneous grants and subsidies totalled £215,659 compared with £9470 in 1933-34. Salaries and honoraria absorbed £60,224 as against £56,013. The expenditure on highways totalled £1,586,964 compared with £1,201,837. The details are as follows: 1934-35. 1933-34. £ £

The sum of £903,071 was spent on defence, £437,839 going to naval defence and £465,232 to general defence.
