JAPANESE IN CHINA DANGEROUS SITUATION DEVELOPING TROOPS NEAR PEKIN (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 11.5 p.m.) Pekin, June 13. Following stringent demands by the Japanese, General Ho Ying-chin chairman of the Pekin Military Council, left hurriedly for Nanking to consult the Central Government. Meanwhile, it is reported that 12 Japanese troop trains and one armoured train have come southward to the Great Wall. Japanese troops also appeared at Minyun, 40 miles to the northward of Pekin. The Japanese notified the local Chinese authorities that a squadron of Japanese aeroplanes would fly from Jehol to Pekin to-day in order to inspect the evacuation of Chinese troops. It is feared that events may take a serious turn at any moment. CHINESE OFFICIALS JAPANESE SEEK DISMISSAL. FRESH DEMANDS PRESENTED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Pekin, June 12. Fresh demands presented to the Pekin Military Council by the Japanese military authorities to-day called for the wholesale dismissal of Chinese officials in the Hopei province, and their replacement by others friendly to the Japanese. These developments are causing much uneasiness among Chinese officials, many of whom have begun to send their families southward. INTENTIONS OBSCURE BRITAIN WATCHING EVENTS. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, June 12. The British Government is closely watching Japanese activities in China. Although the Japanese have demanded the removal of certain Chinese troops they have not asked that the vacated areas be constituted demilitarized zones. The Japanese militarists’ intentions are at present obscure. THE BUFFER AREA PRO-JAPANESE GOVERNMENT WANTED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.15 p.m.) London, June 13. The Tokio correspondent of the News-Chronicle says the newspapers now refer to North China as the buffer area between Manchukuo and China, in which only a pro-Japanese Government can be tolerated.
