HOME MISSION

FIFTH ANNIVERSARY.

WELL-ATTENDED SERVICE.

The fifth anniversary service of Sister Alice’s Invercargill Home Mission was held in Everybody’s Hall yesterday afternoon. Mr C. S. Longuet presided over a good attendance of mothers. After a hymn had been sung Mr Longuet said he had known of Sister Alice’s work for some considerable time. The large attendance of mothers present illustrated in no uncertain terms the great interest that was being taken in the movement. The sister’s work amongst the children was very much appreciated, and happiness was being brought into many young lives. The speaker for the afternoon, the Rev. E. Gardiner, said he knew the work that Sister Alice was doing in Invercargill was not easy. A great deal of tact, and a great deal of love were required. The calling of Sister Alice was one of the most difficult one could follow, but she knew the great necessity of to-day was to get alongside people and help them. The greatest university in the world was the home. On a child the impressions of his home Were being constantly made, and the. influence of the mother was of paramount importance. They all had great difficulties to contend with, they could always lead the children along the right path. Mr Gardiner concluded by wishing the mission increased success in, the coming year. Mr W. Dobbie acted as accompanist, and Mrs J. D. Campbell sang two solos. On the motion of Mr Longuet a hearty vote of thanks was accorded all those who had contributed towards the 'success of the afternoon.
