RIFLE SHOOTING
OTATARA MEETING SOME GOOD SCORING The Southland Rifle Association fired a handicap sweepstake competition at the Otatara range yesterday. The weather conditions were good and scoring was very high. The competitors were restricted to Invercargill riflemen only, the absence -f country sportsmen being a matter of regret. Mr J. T. Wilson efficiently carried out the duties of chief range officer, while the targets were in excellent order, and the marking gave every satisfaction. Rifleman A. Ford, City Guards Club, registered the first 10 shot possible at 300 yards at Otatara. A. R. Wills and J. Ure, who secured 49 at 500, also put up good performances. A. R. Wills with 49 at 600 yards was the winner of the aggregate with an excellent total of 145 out of a possible 150. He also won the Lennie Cup, open to members of the Invercargill Defence Club only.
