FAIRFAX NOTES

SOCIAL, EVENING.

The president of the Fairfax Cricket Club (Mr Brownridge) entertained the members at a social evening at his residence, and the trophies won during the past season were presented. Mr W. G. Gaitt, who put up the highest batting score, 112 not out, received a bat, the gift of the president, and he was also the recipient of his representative cap. Mr J. Joll, for the best batting average for the season, was presented with a gold medal, donated by Mr McPherson, jun. After they had returned thanks and the generosity of the donors was applauded, a cricketing competition, organized by Mr Joll, was held and caused much merriment, the president being declared the winner. Mr and Mrs Brownridge were thanked after supper had been provided. The basketball competition was advanced another stage on Wednesday when the A team met and defeated Waipango by 13 goals to 8. The B team were beaten by Otautau by 11 goals to 8. Both matches were played on the local court, and were ably refereed by Mrs Joll. There was a moderate attendance at the fifth night of the euchre competition. First prizes were won by Miss Nellie Thompson and Mr W. Thompson, and second prizes by Mrs McDougall and Mr H. Rankin.

The local .dairy factory closed down for the season during the week. Mr and Mrs Brownridge have left the district on holiday. Miss McWhirter spent a holiday as the guest of Mrs F. Gerrard, Dipton.
