OTAUTAU NOTES

Miss Margaret Chisholm is spending a holiday in Dunedin. Mrs A. Matheson is visiting friends at Makarewa. Mrs Frank Malcolm and Master lan Malcolm left on Friday morning to attend the Show and races at Dunedin. Mrs G. Butler is visiting her mother at Palmerston. Mr and Mrs W. Thomson, Mrs F. Anderson and Miss Shaw motored to Dunedin during the week to attend the Winter Show at Dunedin. Misses Ruth and Edith Perry, Dunedin, are the-guests of Mr and Mrs J. Thomson and Mr and Mrs R. Bird prior to their going to England to further their studies.

Mr and Mrs C. W. Affleck, Grassy Creek, are in Dunedin for the Winter Show.

Mrs Brass, who has been on holiday at Wellington and Dunedin, is visiting friends at Glenham. She is accompanied by Mr Don Brass. The St. Andrew’s Boy Scout troop entertained the Girl Guide'Company at a social evening on Friday, when items and games were enjoyed. Competitions were won as follows: Musical Bobs, Guide Sutherland and Scout Batchelor; relay race, Guide Company; stepping stones, Guide M. Saxelby and Scout H. Chandler; musical arms, Guide Mackie and Scout Batchelor; rats and rabbits, Guide Company. Items were rendered by the following: Mouthorgan solo, Scout R. McMillan; recitation, Scout L. Liddell; duets, Guide E. Hill and Scoutmaster Hill and Guides M. Bone and Mackie; guitar solo, Guide Hazel Williams. Guide Hill acted as accompaniste. Miss Donnan, Guide captain, thanked the Scouts for the enjoyable evening, this being acknowledged by Mr A. F. Hill, Scoutmaster. A dainty supper was dispensed by the Scouts, and the singing of God Save the King terminated a pleasant function. Following were amongst those present: Misses Donnan (Guide captain), A. McCulloch (lieutenant), Guides E. Hill, Sutherland, Gutschlag (2), Baker, Kennedy, Ireland, Hassed, Mackie, Bone, Rowe, Butler, Williams, Collie (2), McWilliam, Smellie, Chilton, Saxelby (2), Bird and Corkhill, Scoutmaster A. F. Hill, R. R. Walker (assistant Scoutmaster), Scouts Bone, Brown, Liddell, Mackie, Pettitt, Williams (2), Ballam, Chandler, Wesney, Eason, Kennedy, Butler (2), Simon, Batchelor, Miller, Baker, McMillan, Thomson, Rowe and Pulley. Mr W. G. Stevens, of the Tourist Department, Rotorua, is on annual leave, and has been visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs G. H. Stevens. He was accompanied by Mrs Stevens, and they left during the week on the first stages of their journey homeward. Mr and Mrs E. Matheson, Mrs A. Matheson, Misses E. and A. Matheson motored to Mataura last Wednesday, where they were guests at the LawtonBenfell wedding. Miss V. Bird, Invercargill, was home for the week-end.
