SPEEDWAY FATALITY

DIRT TRACK RACER KILLED.

(Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, January 27.

Charles Blacklock, aged 26, a wellknown Christchurch dirt track racer, died in hospital to-day from injuries received in an accident at the opening of the broadsiding season at the Monica Park speedway on Saturday evening. The accident happened in the second lap of the eighth event. D. Higgins, when Blacklock was attempting to pass on the north bend opposite the grandstand, fell, causing Blacklock, who struck his machine, to be thrown heavily. Ken Kirkman, who was following up fast, could not avoid the two machines, and also crashed, injuring his wrist.

Blacklock was unconscious when picked up. He was immediately taken to hospital. His injuries, which were very grave, were to the head and face.
