ALLEGED MODE OF CHANCE.

MANAGER OF FIRM CHARGED.

Decision was reserved by Mr E.. Page, S.M., to-day in the case in which Mr Goodwin, manager of Montague and Burton, was proceeded against for a scheme in which the prizes are competed for by an alleged mode of chance. Displayed in a window was an announcement that a seven guinea suit would be awarded to the person selecting the material of the best quality out of ten suit lengths shown in the window. It was explained in the Court that the prize would go to the person with the first correct answer when the envelopes were opened. Counsel pleaded that the contest was one of skill, but the Magistrate asked was not it chance if the prize was to be awarded hy the method named.
