GOVERNOR-GENERAL MAYOR’S INVITATION ACCEPTED DAY IN INVERCARGILL When it was announced that his Excellency the Governor-General was unable to be present at the Royal Show, keen disappointment was felt by the people of Southland. His Worship the Mayor (Mr John Miller), realizing the general wish of the people that an opportunity should be given them to say farewell to Lord Bledisloe, again wrote to him asking that he should endeavour to pay a final visit to Southland. On Saturday his Worship received the gratifying news that their Excellencies would arrive in Invercargill at mid-day on . Monday, February 25, spend the rest of the day here and leave for Dunedin the following morning. The letter which this Worship received from Sir Cecil Day, official secretary to his Excellency is as follows:— “With reference to my letter of November 12, in answer to yours of the 6th, I am desired by the Gover-nor-General to say that, should the date be convenient to your Worship and the council, their Excellencies would set aside the afternoon or evening of Monday, February 25, for the civic gathering which you have kindly expressed a wish to arrange, on behalf of the citizens of Invercargill, in order to bid farewell to.the Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe. Will you kindly let me know if this date would be suitable, the time and place of the function, and tho proposed order of proceedings? Their Excellencies will arrive at Invercargill by train at 1.10 p.m. on Monday, February 25, and will leave by the 7 o’clock train for Dunedin on the following morning.
