THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL. ENDOWMENT PRESENTED. (Per United Press Association.) Russell, January 27. The institution by Lady Bledisloe and himself of a small endowment to provide at least 10/- annually for the child at the Paihia School displaying the most knowledge of native bush and plants or one that had been most instrumental in preserving them from damage and destruction was announced by the Gover-nor-General at Paihia on Saturday. The gathering was one in which pakehas and Maoris united to express regret at the pending departure for England of their Excellencies and to present Lord Bledisloe with a water-colour of the waterfront view at the Waitangi National Estate.

Lord Bledisloe said he would like to feel that from Paihia there would always radiate among the children of New Zealand a knowledge and love incomparable of the treasures of New Zealand’s bush, unparalleled in their beauty, their variety and their botanical interest throughout the world.
