PIONEER’S DEATH

WELLINGTON RESIDENT.

Wellington, November 8. The death has occurred at Seatoun of Mrs Allan Cameron, who had been a resident of the Wellington province for nearly 94 years. She arrived in Wellington Harbour on the sailing ship Blenheim on December 31, 1840, and landed on the Petone beach with her parents on New Year’s Day, 1841, being carried ashore on the back of a Maori. She was a schoolgirl at the time of the great earthquake in 1855 and was much interested in the changes it made. Mrs Cameron spent much time inspecting the cracks and vents giving off steam and gas and in examining the changed landscape.
