NEW DISTINCTION

KINGSFORD SMITH AN HONORARY POLICE CAPTAIN. TAYLOR IN NEW YORK (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7 p.m.) Los Angeles, November 7. Additional honours were conferred on Sir Charles Kingsford Smith to-day when he was made an honorary police captain. He shared a place of honour with the acting Governor, Mr Frank Merriam, at the Breakfast Club, although the reception was originally intended to celebrate Mr Merriam’s defeat of Mr Upton Sinclair. Captain P. G. Taylor has arrived at New York. Commenting on his achievement in picking out Suva and Hawaii, he said that no radio aids to navigation were used on the flight, the only radio set in the plane being a transmitting apparatus. He explained that he had accepted a position with the East Indian Air Line and was already overdue at Singapore. He will sail for England on Friday.
