CITY OF MELBOURNE

ARCHBISHOP’S BLESSING.

AN IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY.

(United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 10.30 p.m.) Melbourne, November 8. From the base of the tower of St. Paul’s Cathedral, 80 feet above the street, Archbishop Head blessed the city this morning. More than 3000 gathered in Swanson and Flinders streets bowed their heads as the Archbishop’s voice rang clear from amplifiers above the roar of the traffic. The blessing was: For all God’s guidance, blessing and protection of our city and State in the first century of their history, we humbly thank Him.” The ceremony preceded the opening of the Anglican Congress. Archbishop Head descended and gave the inaugural address in the Cathedral. He said: “Our task is to see that a Christian Australia will serve God in the future century.” Addresses of goodwill were presented on the chancel steps by Bishop WestWatson (New Zealand) and Dr. David, Bishop of Liverpool.
