SOUTHLAND RADIO CLUB

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Southland Radio Club was held on Monday evening when the following were present: Messrs A. W. Jones (president m the chair), T. H. Watson, G. Skipworth, D. McEwan, G. L. Teychenne, J. Fickard, A. E. Jordan, F. Simpson, F. Aitken, L. Alsweiler and the secretary, Mr W. R. Mabson. A vote of sympathy was conveyed to Mr Cheyne on the recent death of nix' mother. . It was decided for the winter months to go on the air on Monday, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 6.30 instead of 7 p.m., and to close at 9.30 p.m. It was arranged to have a land-line connected with the Salvation Army headquarters to enable it to be on the Church rota. The services would be every fifth Sunday. ■ The president reported that a new agreement had been finalized and signed between the club and Mr Parsons. The president also stated that it had been arranged to broadcast the civic reception to Miss Jean Batten at the Civic Theatre to-day at 12.15, the boxing this evening, and the Highland piping competitions on Saturday evening. It was decided to make arrangements to broadcast the old timers’ function from Bluff in August, and at an early date to broadcast a concert from Mataura and also from Winton. The board wrote stating that it had forwarded four new tubes for the station. In connection with the resolution forwarded to it from the annual meeting of the club urging the broadcast of speeches by leaders of the Parliamentary parties, the board replied promising to bring it under the notice of the Minister. It was decided to vote £1 1/- to the Southland branch of the New Zealand D.X. Association. It was decided to approve of the appointment of Mr N. McGorlick, of Bluff, as the boxing announcer for the next three months. A programme committee consisting of Messrs Teychenne, Alsweiler, Aitken and Pickard was appointed. Messrs J. Cheyne and A. Smith were appointed collectors of subscriptions for the club. It was decided to endeavour to arrange for a sports resume to be broadcast each Saturday night between 7 and 7.30. The secretary submitted a statement showing a small credit balance. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to Mr Pienaar, of Dunedin, for his valued assistance in connection with the two wrestling broadcasts in Invercargill.
