TUATAPERE NOTES
WOMEN’S DIVISION. (From Our Correspondent). At the monthly meeting of the Tuatapere branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs Harrison presided over a largely attended meeting. An invitation from the Fairfax branch to its birthday party on April 19 was received with thanks and it was left open for members to attend if possible. Acting upon the suggestion of the Southland A. and P. Association that the Women’s Division should have a display at the forthcoming Winter Show, it was decided that the Tuatapere branch have a bay of arts and crafts and if possible a display of home industries. To take charge of the branch’s interests Mrs R. Whyte was appointed head of a committee with helpers, Mesdames D. Whyte, H. Erskine and R. Scott. All women and girls (irrespective of division members) wishing to take advantage of the Home Science dressmaking classes this winter at a charge of 3d an hour were asked to leave their names with the Tuatapere division. Mrs J. Bennett was appointed secretary of the monthly competitions. “Something new from something old” elicited many useful and neatly made garments, several of which were handed in for the necessitous case clothes box. The judges of the competition, Mesdames Charlton and Winter, awarded places as follows: Mrs H. Erskine 1, Mrs R. Erskine 2, Mrs R. Whyte 3. In handing back the prize for further competition Mrs Erskine was thanked by acclamation. The roll call for next day is, “Something made from a sugar-bag.” Mesdames Harrison and Griffin reported on the executive meeting. It was announced that the annual meeting would take place this month.
