PENSION CUT

FRENCH EX-SOLDIERS. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 9.15 p.m.) Paris, April 9. The Prime Minister, M. Doumergue, is likely to reach an amicable arrangement with ex-soldiers, who are preparing a scheme whereby they voluntarily sacrifice £12,000,000. If accepted as sufficient it will rob the civil servants of much support for their proposed demonstrations. A previous message stated: New French decrees are expected to reduce ex-soldiers’ pensions by £20,000,000. Their administration is more delicate than public service economies owing to the number and prestige of exsoldiers. It is hoped that ex-soldiers’ delegates at a conference with the Minister of Pensions on Monday will accept the cut.
