TAPANUI NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.)
The Maori Mission Choir concert was held in the Town Hall on Tuesday, but the attendance was only moderate. A very good programme was presented. The different pleasure resorts in the district were visited during the holidays by many parties of pleasureseekers, and quite a number of campers took advantage of the fine holiday weather. The rivers were in good order for fishing, and many anglers were out, some nice bags of fish being secured. Mr P. Boylen landed one fish weighing 10 pounds out of the Pomahaka.. District farmers have been taking advantage of the recent spell of fine weather to stack oat and wheat crops. Mills have been threshing ryegrass and clover, and on some farms oats have been threshed out of stook. If fine weather continues harvest operations will soon be completed. An enjoyable evening was spent at The Downs, Waikoikoi, on Thursday evening, when a “kitchen evening” was given by the ’Koi Bible Class and choir, joined by district friends, to . Miss Martha Robertson, on the occasion of her marriage. Mr M. Stark made the presentation of a clothes basket full of varied kitchen utensils from the Bible Class and choir. Mr John McCan, on behalf of the church members and friends, presented to Miss Robertson a travelling rug with straps, and inscribed name.
A car travelling from Invercargill to Roxburgh on Friday skidded in loose gravel at a bend in the road past Waikoikoi. The car overturned, the driver, Mr Walsh, of Clyde street, Invercargill, escaping without injury, but Mrs Walsh’s arm was broken, and Miss Walsh was slightly injured.
