OHAI NOTES

PERSONAL. (From Our Correspondent.) Mrs A. Copland, Timaru, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs J. W. Martin. Mr and Mrs W. Manderson, who have been visiting Lilburne, returned to their home during the week. Miss Daphne Evans is spending the week-end in Invercargill. Mrs T. Durkin, who has been spending a few days in Invercargill as the guest of her sister, Mrs J. Marshall, has returned to Ohai. Mr and Mrs Martin and daughter have returned from Milton. Mrs Corlett left for her home in Tuatapere during the week. Members of the local school committee have commenced a series of card evenings to be held in the schoolroom every Monday night. There was a fair number of enthusiasts at the initial evening and prizes were awarded to Mrs Gray and Mr J. Duffy. The Wednesday afternoon competitions are still proving popular with the ladies of the Ohai Club. Weather conditions were ideal on Wednesday and a good number took part in the sealed hole competition, which resulted in a win for Mrs J. E. Lewis. Those present were: Mesdames D. Mclntosh, J. E. Lewis, A. Gerken, R. Murray, R. Colquhoun, R. Scott, S. Giles, Misses B. Wilson, P. Mclntosh, J. Edmonds and M. Wilson. Mrs R. Boyd was hostess at a party at her home on Thursday, the object being to augment the funds of the Anglican Church. There was a very pleasant gathering and during the afternoon games and competitions were indulged in. Wirmers of the competitions were: Musical parcels, Mrs R. Bird; memory test, Miss J. Davies; one-letter competition, Mrs Fopham; tailing the pig, Miss P. Fowler; mystery parcel, Mrs R. Bird. The following items were given: Short stories, Mrs Bowman; songs, Mesdames Popham. and Bird; recitation, Mrs W. Manderson; humorous story, Mrs C. Orr. Those present were: Mesdames Boyd, Popham, Orr, Bird, Bowman, Manderson, Tiplady, Anderson, Lambert, Harris, Mills, Sheehan; Misses P. Fowler, B. Dixon (Dunedin) and J. Davies.
