EASTER CAMP
BAPTIST BIBLE CLASSES. In ideal surroundings the third consecutive Easter Camp was held this year at Pounawea by the Otago and Southland Young Men’s Baptist Bible Class Union. The 110 young men who attended enjoyed comfortable quarters for sleeping and eating as well as a suitable hall in which to hold meetings. Fine weather prevailed throughout the camp, which added to the pleasure of the campers, and in the interval between meetings the pastimes of boating and swimming were indulged in. Short sermon and impromptu speech contests have always been a feature of these camps and as a result of this year’s competition. Messrs P. Morrish (Owaka) and F. Sherburd (Hanover street) won the senior and junior short sermon respectively, while Messrs J. B. Harper and A. Bartlett (North Invercargill) were the respective winners of the sermon and junior impromptu speech section. The physical side of the camp life was given due regard, the running, jumping and swimming events bringing good entries. The South Dunedin senior class carried home the senior shield. While the physical and social aspects received their due prominence, the main purpose of the camp was a spiritual one. Under the leadership of the Rev. G. C. Reay, of the Mornington Baptist Church, studies were held dealing with the doctrines of salvation, sanctification, service and power for service. Three services were held on Sunday. The first was at Owaka Baptist Church by the Rev. T. R. Page, of South Dunedin, the second by the Rev. Anstice, of North East Valley, and the third by the Rev. G. C. Reay. Over. 30 members went forward for salvation and reconsecration at the close of the evening evangeltistic service. The Rev. L. A. Silcock, of Owaka, was the energetic commandant of the camp, and to him in large measure is due the smooth running which characterized it. Mr H. Schroeder, of Invercargill, was an efficient song-leader, and not only led the singing at the meetings, but in a short space of time had a choir trained for the Sunday services.
