JAPANESE COMPETITION.
LANCASHIRE SEEKS PROTECTION.

Nearly a hundred firms representing all sections of the Lancashire cotton trade petitioned the Manchester Chamber' of Commerce for a special meeting to discuss a campaign in favour of protection against Japanese competition. In the meantime the Manchester Chamber of Commerce passed a .resolution asking the Government to set up a committee of inquiry to consider the restrictive influence of the most favoured nation clause on the negotiations for trade agreements.
