HOUSEWIVES’ UNION
RECENT MEETINGS. At a meeting of the Invercargill Housewives’ Union a competition for a Christmas dinner was held and was won by “H.M.S. Barrel.” Christmas greetings were sent to every member of the union.
Owing to the fact that the union has had a very successful year financially it was decided to donate some of the funds raised from dances, etc., to various committees for distribution. A donation of £3 was made to the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund, £2 to Women’s Unemployment Committee for toys, and £1 to the Health Camp Committee. As the members have a considerable amount of garments made it was resolved to have a sale of work in January before the schools resume.
For members and children the union is having a picnic at the end of January at some suitable place. At a previous meeting the president, Mrs McLean, resigned her position as chairwoman. This was received with regret. Nominations were called for a president and Mrs Geddes was elected unopposed. At the request of the retiring president the books and accounts of the union were taken to an auditor to be examined. They were certified by him as being correct and properly kept.
