SOUTHLAND DISTRICT. QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Southland District W.C.T.U. was held on Friday, May 5, when members representing eight unions were present. The chair was occupied by the district president, Mrs MacGregor, and devotions were led by Mrs Richards in the morning and Miss A. Douglas in the afternoon. The various unions reported on the work during the' last six months, some very encouraging reports being given of progress increased membership. The secretary reported having received messages from ladies who had been delegates at the recent convention expressing their appreciation of the many kindnesses shown them in Invercargill. The Southland Union recorded a motion of thanks to all hostesses for their generous hospitality. Several remits and resolutions passed at the convention were reaffirmed. Some unions reported having started copper trails for the jubilee fund. Miss Agnes Douglas, the newly-ap-pointed organizer for Southland, was welcomed by the president and gave a very interesting talk on the work. Miss Jamieson gave a lecturette on “Alcohol in its relation to Food.” It was decided to hold an afternoon of prayer in the South W.C.T.U. Hall on Thursday, May 18.
