Apparently it is never too young to learn; a three-year-and-a-half-old girl has learned to swim at the Christchurch Tepid Baths this season. She has attended with a class from Cashmere (states the Sun), and was taught by the official instructor (Mr J. Steward). ■ So far, she can swim on her back only without the aid of a belt. She is said to be the youngest pupil to “graduate” in' classes at, the Tepid Baths. ’ The instructor’s task was assisted by an absence of timidity by his pupil, who would never hesitate to jump in, although'this meant a disappearance for a moment in water beyond her depth. Possibly, also, the fact that an elder sister was in , the class induced a sense of rivalry that helped her. • ,' .
