BLUFF WATER SUPPLY.

To the Editor. Sir,—l understand that yesterday a youthful surveyor, commissioned by the Bluff Borough Council, was at work on the hill, in connection with the finding of a site for a proposed new reservoir. Apparently then it is the intention of the Mayor and councillors to push ahead with some water reticulation scheme of their own without consulting those who will ultimately have to pay for the work, as, so far, Any recent discussions on this scheme which may have taken place round the council table have not been reported in the newspapers, and, consequently, the ratepayers of the borough have been left completely in the dark. Now, Sir, if Mr Doyle and his colleagues have gone thus far alone it is time the ratepayers were taken into their confidence and I would ask Mr Doyle, if he has the interests of the borough at heart, to answer through your columns the following questions:— 1. Why does the council consider building a new reservoir when there is ample water available from the present Harbour Board reticulation? 2. Does Mr Doyle consider that there is a sufficient surplus in the ordinary revenue of the borough to finance such a scheme, and, if not, how does he propose raising the necessary money? 3. How does the council propose to get water for a reservoir, when tip* land all round the only practicable site is owned by the Bluff Harbour Board? . . 4. If the council considers that it is in the interests of the borough to acquire a reticulation of its own has it considered purchasing the existing reticulation from the Bluff Harbour Board? If Mr Doyle clears up these queries he will remove a cloud of doubt, which, at present hangs over the head of any deep thinking ratepayer and will be assured of the gratitude of those who follow conscientiously the movements of the Borough Council financial baromGitcr. —I am, etc.. "INTERESTED.” Bluff, December 23, 1932.
