A FORWARD DISTRICT.

To the Editor. Sir, —Travelling through the Morton Mains district last week I was struck with the fine appearance of the farms, all dotted over it, with plenty of feed and the stock looking exceptionally well. Most of the sheep farmers arc expecting heavy drafts of fat iambs off their mothers, in fact quite a number of fat lambs off Morton Mains have been in the Lorneville sale every Tuesday for the last two months and last sale one farmer had a truck load, which realized somewhere about 12/each, which speaks well for the district. One farmer has 130 acres of kale and 30 acres is ready now to wean lambs on. He believes in having lamb feed ready waiting for the lambs, not the lambs waiting for the feed. Even with the bad times the settlers are to start to build a church at once, somewhere near the railway siding, so they can attend to their spiritual wants. More power to them. That is better than going Sunday hiking on the railway.—l am, etc. TRAVELLER.
