ATHLETIC SOCIETY. (From Our Correspondent.) It is the intention of the club to hold a gathering at an early date in the New Year, and probably an evening meeting later in the season. A successful card evening was run in aid of the Athletic Club when 46 players participated. Miss Sheridan won the ladies’ trophy after a play-off with Mrs McDougall, and a tie was also recorded for the men’s prize between Messrs G. Bulman and J. Bolter, the former winning the deciding game. The hall was packed to the doors on the occasion of the annual school concert and dance in aid of the prize fund. A first-class performance was given by the children, every item showing the fruits of good tuition by the teacher (Miss Hardy). Mr A. J. Officer, chairman of the School Committee, presided, and after thanking all for their attendance, asked that no encores be demanded, as the programme comprised 24 items. The following comprised the programme: “A visit from Fairyland,” Maisie Bye; song, combined school children; dialogue, juniors and infants; play, senior boys; recitation, infants; song, Alex. Another exciting cycle road race was run on Saturday evening under the control of the newly-formed Athletic Society, 15 riders competing. The limit man, V. Swale, rode a hard race on his own, and over the last mile the field began to close on him. In the last 50 yards he was beaten by W. Ford, a promising young rider of Isla Bank. The distance was about seven miles and the following comprised the field:—V. Swale (2min 15sec), D. Brown (2min.), W. Ford, Bell and M. Cowan (Imin 35sec), B. Cowan (Imin 25sec), J.
