RENO BANKS CLOSE
TEMPORARY EMBARRASSMENT. FACILITIES AT GAMBLING HOUSES. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.20 p.m.) Reno (Nevada), November 1. This city, sometimes called the divorce and gambling capital of the United States, turned to gambling houses and illicit liquor dispensaries for banking facilities to-day as state officials declare a fortnight’s bank holiday to allow many institutions in a weak position to reorganize. Some are soliciting funds from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. The gambling houses are generally well supplied with silver dollars, and it is believed that they will be able to carry on at least part of the necessary business! Many divorce suits must be postponed pending the litigants’ ability to secure money.
