MOKOTUA NOTES
Mr James Milne, jun., met with a very painful accident a few days ago which might easily have cost him his eyesight. When handling a bottle of spirits of salts he received a splash in the vicinity of the eyes. After receiving medical attention in Invercargill it was found that the eyesight was impaired and he is now making good progress towards complete recovery. At a recent meeting of the Oterarnika School Committee it was decided to bring the fortnightly euchre and dance socials to a conclusion on Saturday, October 8. These socials proved exceedingly popular during the winter months, and have been of very material benefit to the local school funds. Lambing has been occupying the attention of most local farmers for some weeks, past and good percentages are generally reported. Team work is in full swing, but the unprecedented dry spell for the month of September is reflected in extremely backward pastures, several late frosts having retarded the growth of grass.
