(From Our Correspondent.) A meeting of the Waimatuku School Committee was held on July 18.. There were present, Mr Strang (chairman), Messrs Galt, Peterson, Muirhead and Smith. The headmaster reported that the school roll stood at 65 and there was an average of 61 for the term, the low average being on account of bad weather. The inspector visited the school on July 4 and his annual report was tabled. It was decided to obtain prices for trimming the hedge and cutting the branches for firewood. The head teacher was authorized to purchase materials for handwork. It was decided to have the piece of ground around the wash basins concreted. The fortnightly euchre social on Saturday, July 23, drew probably the largest attendance since the opening night. There were about 24 tables and the prize-winners for the evening were Miss Hazel Smith and Mr A. McDowell. The monthly meeting of the Waimatuku P.W.M.U. was held in the vestry on July 26. There were 21 members present. The devotional lesson for the day was “Prayers that are done.” A letter from Mrs McNeur, of Canton, was read by Mrs A. Lindsay, and an article, “Everyday doings in India,” was read by Mesdames Galt, Evans, Stewart, C. Nicholas and Rance. An article from the Outlook was read by Mrs Hodson. After the meeting Mrs Hodson took the opportunity to make a small presentation to Mrs and Miss Nicholas, who are severing their connection with the local branch. In asking their acceptance of the gift the president expressed the regret of the members at losing faithful members of the church. Mrs Nicholas expressed gratitude on behalf of herself and her daughter, and said that they were grateful for the friendship they had received.
