GORE Mr J. W. Nicholson, manager of the local branch of the National Bank at Gore for several years, and Mrs Nicholson, spent a few days here-last week renewing old friendships. They returned home last Friday. Mrs R. B. Bannerman left hist week on a holiday visit to Nelson where she will be the guest of Mr and Mrs H. V. Searle. Mr and Mrs W. Crothers, Waikowiti, are visitors to Gore at present and are staying at the Southland Hotel.

Miss T. Turnbull is spending a holiday at Queenstown. Mrs A. Mathieson and Miss Mathieson of Dunedin are at present visitors to Gore and are the guests of Mrs G. McLeod, Ardwick Street.

Mrs A. Wingfield, St. Hilda, Dunedin, who was the guest of Mrs J. E. Rogers last week, went on to Invercargill for the week-end before returning home. An interesting crowd of spectators was present at the Gore tennis courts on Monday evening of last week, when Miss R. Blaikie met Miss B. Oswin in the match for the ladies’ championship button. Miss Oswin won the first set 6—3 but Miss Blaikie took the next two 6—4, 6—3. Mr and Mrs Bartlett, of Napier, who have been the guests of Mrs A. E. Boult, Albany Street, during the past six weeks, returned north last Friday. Mrs J. Finnerty, Wellington, is at present on a visit to her mother, Mrs W. Cronin, Coutt’s Road. Mrs E. G. Wilson was sworn as a Justice of the Peace in the Gore Magistrate’s Court last Monday. Mr and Mrs T. L. Piller are on a visit to Dunedin.

Mrs Beattie, Umaru, is spending a holiday here and is the guest of the Misses Mac Gibbon, Huron Street, East Gore. The Gore Women’s Club opened last Tuesday with a most successful social afternoon, the members being the guests of the general committee. The lounge was beautifully decorated for the occasion with vases of pink larkspur and sweetpeas. The president, Mrs J. A. Blaikie, welcomed the members and expressed the wish that 1932 would prove a successful year for the club and that many happy times would be spent there by ail. Prior to afternoon tea being served, musical items were given by Miss Winnie Gresham (pianoforte solo), Miss J. McLeod (song), Miss M. Mac Gibbon (song), the accompaniments being played by Mrs McLeod and Miss S. Inder. Later a short play-reading, “Edward About io Marry,” was given with the following cast: “Lady Tuckesbury,” Mrs D. Harvey; “Helen Blundell,” Miss Mabel Mac Gibbon; “Violet Lyndale,” Miss Janet Rogers; “Barnabas Mercer,” Mrs A B. Caverhill; “Sir Alfred Hyde,” Mrs J. A. Edwards; “Kendall,” Miss B. Gibbs; “Constanza Tremaine” Miss Ruth Blaikie; “Edward Cartwright,” Mrs J. M. Boyne; “Socrates Cagliostro,” Miss Sylvia Inder. Chorus, Miss Gibbs. Amongst the many present were Mesdames J. Green, Mclntyre, K. Kirk. The members of the Welfare Circle of the Women’s Club held a most enjoyable Bridge party last Wednesday afternoon. A prize for the highest score was won by Mrs R.
