S.D.A. INSTITUTIONS.

To the Editor. Sir,- —As before stated I have no intention of participating in an extended newspaper discussion with Mr Sampson. The spirit with which he writes, and the language which he chooses is sufficient evidence to the thoughtful reader that he is simply giving expression to malicious prejudice. But it is necessary to speak, when he either ignorantly or wilfully misrepresents. I have been requested to give the true position of institutions under Seventh Day control. May I herewith explain what Mr Sampson calls “a huge commercial undertaking.” I will state at the beginning that in all the institutions owned by Seventh Day Adventists, in the production of health food preparations, or in their hospitals, not a single employee receives any financial benefit except his ordinary wage. May I also state that large hospitals are kept open in spite of heavy losses of thousands of pounds annually. If such hospitals were run merely for gain, and the welfare of humanity was not the chief object then they would be closed long ago. Our largest hospital in Australia, the Sydney Sanitarium, is kept open in spite of a loss of thousands of pounds annually. The sale of health foods assists in keeping such hospitals open to relieve the sufferings of thousands of our fellow men annually. Such sir, is the work criticized by the caustic writings of your correspondent.— I am etc., A LOVER OF TRUTH* [Having declined the controversy, our correspondent cannot enter now. The first part of his letter is published becouse it is outside of the controversial point.—Ed. S.T.J
