OTAUTAU NOTES

DIVISION.

The monthly meeting of the Women’a Division of the Farmers’ Union, held on Friday was well attended, when Mrs E\ ans (president) occupied the chair. The season’s greetings were received from Airs Jackson, the Dominion president, and Mrs Evans read an interesting address on “Mother’s Duty,” which was given by Dr. White at the half-yearly meeting of the executive in Dunedin. The remits for the half-yearly conference in Auckland in January were discussed and Mrs Evans was appointed to represent the branch, Mrs Saunders .taking the opportunity to wish her an enjoyable trip, at the same time expressing the hope that the remits of the Otautau branch would be carried. It was decided not to hold a meeting in January, and it was resolved to hold a picnic in February. A report of the last meeting of the Southland executive was read by the president, at the conclusion of which Mrs Muirhead moved a vote of thanks. This was seconded by Mrs McLeod, and carried with acclamation. . At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs Evans wished all members a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. In the afternoon Mrs Saunders gave an interesting and instructive address on “Home Nursing,” which was greatly appreciated by those present. Mrs James moved a hearty vote of thanks to the lecturer, and trusted she would give another in the near future. She also remarked that the branch was fortunate in possessing so capable a member. Members brought along some very good articles on “Something not costing more than one shilling,” and a very interesting competition resulted. Presbyterian Sunday School. There was a good attendance of parents and scholars at the annual social and prizegiving in connection with the Presbyterian Sunday School in the Sunday School hall on Friday evening, when the Rev. W. H. Howes presided. A very enjoyable programme was given as follows: Opening lines, Infant girls (M. Low, D. Jellyman, Joan Chandler, D. Rowan, E. Jellyman, M. Dickson and H. Mackie) ; song, A. Campbell; recitation, Allan McCrostie; chorus, junior choir; recitation, Douglas Gould; dance, Lily Maxwell; song, Lex Liddell; item, senior choir; recitation, Dulcie Rowan; item, junior choir; guitar duet, Miss A. McCulloch and Mr J. Thomson; song, Mr H. Hogg; dance, Miss N. Maxwell; recitation, Winnie Rowan; chorus, junior choir. The senior choir was led by Mr H. Hogg and the junior choir by Mr E. Jellyman, while the accompaniments were played by Mrs West and Mr E. Jellyman.
