TOLAGA BAY

CLOSING OF COTTAGE HOSPITAL.

ACTION OF BOARD

(Per United Press Association.)

Gisborne, April 18.

On the grounds that the Tolaga Bay Cottage Hospital was not providing adequate service for the amount expended the Cook Hospital Board decided to-day to close the institution.

The decision was arrived at after a prolonged discussion on a telegram from the Minister of Health stating that he could not agree to the application to close the institution, the board deciding on the policy of open defiance of the Minister by six votes to five.

One speaker said that the Minister’s action was inconsistent as when in Gisborne he informed the board that the decision lay with them, but now stated he did not agree with the closing of the institution.
