PROGRESS LEAGUES
SOUTH ISLAND CONFERENCE.
(Per United Press Association.)
Blenheim, April 18
The annual conference of South Island Progress Leagues met at Blenheim to-day and was accorded a civic welcome by the Mayor (Mr M. McKenzie) after which it proceeded to discuss a great number of remits, the most important of which was the. scheme of group settlement of land, giving the lease in perpetuity without right of sale.
This was put forward on behalf of the Otago Expansion League and was lengthily discussed. The scheme which had as a root principle the prevention of land speculation was generally approved but delegates thought that time should be given for the mature consideration of such a vital subject and referral the proposal to the various leagues for consideration.
To-morrow the delegates will be taken for a motor tour of Marlborough.
