WORK PROCEEDING AT ADELAIDE-. (Rec. 9.45 p.m.) Adelaide, October 14. Work here is proceeding smoothly, unionists and volunteers working side by side. The waterside workers to-day formulated a policy for future action, one proposal being to confine the strike to Melbourne and endeavour to obtain financial help. A number of members were convinced they were fighting a losing battle. The Australian and New Z’ealand Council of Trades Unions is meeting the watersiders’ representatives at-a conference to-morrow in order to plan further activities. The port of Geelong to-day was involved in the strike, the* stevedores of two vessels retiring. Work on these vessels is at a standstill. The total enrolment of volunteers at Melbourne wharves is 4,200. The shipowners have stopped enrolling them.—Australian Press Association.
