HALIFAX BY-ELECTION. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, July 14. The Halifax by-election owing to the Hon. J. H. Whitley’s retirement resulted: — Alderman Longbottom (Labour) .. 17,536 Major Barnes (Liberal) 12,585 Major Crossley (Conservative) .. 10,864 —Australian Press Association—United Service. At the general election in 1923 the Hon. J. H. Whitley, the late Speaker, was returned unopposed.
