FIRE IN KELVIN STREET

FRUIT SHOP DAMAGED. About 11 o’clock on Saturday night the brigade received a call to an outbreak of fire in the “Pep” fruit shop in Kelvin street. The flames were quickly got under control, though not before some slight damage vtfas done to the back wall of the building where the fire originated, the outbreak being caused by live embers dropping from the open grate. A number of personal effects were burnt and a typewriter, gramophone and sofa were badly damaged, a quantity of fruit being damaged also. The buildmg, which is owned by H. and J. Smith Ltd., and is occupied by Messrs L. Stokes and D. Livingstone is insured for £3OO in the Standard Office. The insurances on the stock were not available. The damage is estimated at about £lOO.
