LOST IN THE BUSH

YOUNG MAN’S TRAGIC DEATH. INQUEST AT WELLINGTON. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, June 27. An inquest was held to-day on the death of Mervyn Conrad Hodgkinson, aged 21, of No. 2 Oriental street, Petone, whose body was found in the bush in the Orongorongo country on June 21.

The Coroner, Mr E. Page, found that death was due to misadventure.

In summing up, Mr Page said a party of three had gone out pig shooting and by way of oversight neither food nor compass was taken. The Coroner thought three facts were responsible. The weather had been very bad indeed at the time and being very foggy it had affected visibility. The second was they had no food and the third they had no compass. Clarence Poynter (who got out) did all he possibly could for Hodg kinson.

The verdict was that deceased died about June 12 from starvation and exposure while lost in the bush when out pig shooting. __________
