EASTERN DISTRICT. MATAURA 2 v. HIGH SCHOOL 0. (From Our Correspondent.) The hockey match between Mataura and Gore High School played on the Mataura Recreation Grounds yesterday in fine weather provided the most interesting game of hockey that has been witnessed at Mataura this season. The Mataura team played an excellent game and their hitting and shooting was accurate w’hile they followed up well and combined well together. High School played a good defensive game which saved them many times.

The teams were as follows: —Mataura— Misses McVicar, A. Coster, M. Donnell, B. Donnell, J. Curtin, T. Mackie, K. Paulin, Mrs Taylor, A. Edgar, M. Maley, A. Webb. Gore High School: E. Casey, J. Graham, M. Murdoch, E. Hunter, R. Allen, D. Moore, M. Gormack, F. Petrie, E. McKee, C. Kirk, M. Belsham.

The game was fast and interesting throughout and in the first spell Miss Jean Curtin shot two goals for Mataura. In the second spell High School had if anything the better of play but the defence of Mataura frustrated any attempts to goal. Mataura were also within shooting distance on several occasions but High School staved them off and no score was registered on either side. The game ended with play in midfield with the scores Mataura 2, Gore High School 0. Mr H. B. Paulin (Waimumu) and Mr A. D. Crawford (Gore) controlled the game.
