IRISH FREE STATE
ELECTION RESULTS VICTORY FOR CONSTITUTIONALISTS UNION OF PARTIES PROBABLE (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Rec. 7.15 p.m.) London, June 14. The Times’s Dublin correspondent states that although the returns are incomplete, it is clear that the Irish Free State elections have resulted in a victory for the supporters of the Anglo-Irish Treaty. The polling was unexpectedly heavy in nearly every constituency. The constitutional elements won, despite the Republicans’ admittedly superior organisation and large campaigning funds, which De Valera recently obtained in America. Mr Cosgrave declared before the election that he would not remain in office unless he won at least 50 seats. This now is most doubtful, but the declaration will not prevent a big alliance with some smaller constitutional groups. This seems the most probable result of an election which re-affirms the determination of the majority of the people in the Free State to support the constitution.—The Times. POSITION OF PARTIES.
