SOIL CONGRESS
PROBLEMS OF PRODUCTION. Washington, June 13. On the eve of his departure on vacation to Blackhills, President Coolidge welcomed delegates to the first International Soil Congress at which 25 nations, including Russia, are represented. The delegates will spend a week discussing the problem of continuing the fertility of soil and the development of barren land for crop production. Mr. Coolidge pledged the resources of the Government. He said the interchange of ideas and personal association were made possible by such international gatherings. This was productive of a better understanding among the different peoples and would ultimately lead to a more universal desire for peace among all nations. Mr Coolidge stated that the United States was spending $157,000,000 every year through the Department of Agriculture with $10,300,000 for scientific research.—A. and N.Z.
