SOUTH INVERCARGILL

BOROUGH COUNCIL. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the South Invercargill Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers yesterday evening. Present—Mr W. McChesney (Mayor), Councillors J. R. Sutton, D. H. Wilson, J. McG. Forrester, F. Holloway, and E. A. Hewitt. It was decided that all arrears in rates and accounts outstanding should be sued for. A letter from the Railway Department with regard to the formation of a Railway Advisory Board was received. The following report was submitted by the Works Committee —The committee reports having met and discussed the matter of cleaning out the Clifton drain with the Clifton ratepayers, and recommend that George Holloway, C. W. Capil, H. Fox, E. Moylan and W. Dutton be asked to enter into an agreement with the council to cut and remove gorse from the banks of the drain running through their properties or from roads used by them on which the drain is situated and further that in event of the council cleaning out the drain they be asked to undertake to remove . all obstructions for which they are responsible, after which the matter will receive further consideration. In regard to G. H. Dawson’s application for footpath on Brown street, have no recommendation to make. Having no recommendation to make in regard to footpath on Elies road from Nelson street south. The Finance Committee reported as follows —That George Holloway be charged £3, W. C. Denham £2, Owen Smith £9, C. W. Capil £3, W. Dutton £3, C. Hitchman £2, W. Sycamore £2, E. A. Hewitt £1 and A. Greig 10/- for the use of borough roads (at present fenced in and occupied) from November, 1925, to October, 1926, and that they be offered the use of same roads at the same rental for a further term of one year dating from November 1, 1926, after which, failing acceptance of offer, the fences will be removed and the roads thrown open. Recommend that the rent be applied to the cleaning of the Clifton drain and its tributaries. The reports were adopted. Accounts amounting to £l4B 8/6 were passed for payment.
