RED CROSS SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The monthly meeting of the Invercargill Red Cross Society was held in the rooms, Tay street, last Friday afternoon when there were present: Mrs J. G. Petrie (vicepresident in the chair), Mesdames H. Acton, A. Hanan, A. Hamilton and R. Henderson. The Under-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs, wrote stating that June 8, 1926, had been fixed for the date of the conference to be held in Wellington, between the Hon. the Minister in Charge of War Funds, and those societies administering a war fund. Remits for the information of delegates to the conference were received also, and these were forwarded on to our delegate, Sir Joseph Ward. Mr. Vincent Ward wrote stating that Sir Joseph Ward was in Australia and would not be back in time for the conference. He stated that if he could assist us in any way he would be pleased to do so. It was decided to appoint Mr. Vincent Ward as our delegate and that a letter be sent to him expressing the committee’s appreciation of his generous action in coming to our assistance at such short notice —Carried. The headquarters secretary forwarded the Agenda Paper for the annual meeting of the New Zealand Executive to be held in Christchurch at which the delegate, Mrs J. A. Hanan, Dunedin, will be present. Reports of the activities of Sister Clark and Nurse Corkiil in the Canterbury and Taranaki districts were received. The branch secretary reported that the Southland Boxing Association had forwarded complimentary tickets for the MurrayJamito contest for the soldier patients at the hospital. The secretary was instructed to write and thank the association for the kind concession which was very much appreciated by the soldiers who witnessed the contest. It was decided to appoint official visitors to the Riverton Hospital and Miss McNaughton and Mrs. Crawford having expresed their willingness to act, were appointed. It was decided to write and thank these ladies for the time and interest they are taking in the soldier patients.
