RED CROSS FUNDS
THE GOVERNMENTS ACTION. STATEMENT BY MR J. A. FISHER. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 27. With reference to the Press Association message sent out from Dunedin, “The action of the Government in retaining the sum of £300,000 which the British Red Cross returned to the New Zealand Society at the termination of the war was adversely criticised by Mr J. A. Flesher,” Mr Flesher says the Government was not referred to in the discussion at the meeting of the Red Cross executive, nor was the amount involved £300,000, but £30,000. The sum given by the British Red Cross has not only been received but has also been invested by the New Zealand Society and the income has been used to defray the costs incidental to Red Cross scholarships. Any criticism offered had relation to the apparently inconsistent administration of the War Funds Department.
